INSIDE HELLAMAID · FRANCHISING

Hellamaid is franchising to put local owners in the cities we already serve and to open territories in provinces we don’t serve yet. Some of our corporate locations are becoming franchise territories, so new owners start with existing clients and cleaners from day one.

Since 2017, Hellamaid has grown to 60+ cities across Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia and completed 70,000+ cleans. We got there by building strong central systems: online booking, scheduling, client support and quality follow-up that work the same way in every city.

That central model is what let us scale. The next stage is different. It is about depth in each city, and that needs people on the ground. This post explains why we’re franchising, how it works, and what it means if you’re already a Hellamaid client.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Hellamaid’s next stage is a stronger local footprint in the 60+ cities it serves, plus new territories in provinces it doesn’t serve yet.
  • Local owners build closer relationships with clients and cleaners than a central team can.
  • Local presence allows grassroots marketing and ad spend on Google and Meta targeted to specific postal codes.
  • Some corporate locations are being converted into franchise territories that come with existing clients and cleaners.
  • For clients, booking, support, the satisfaction policy, insurance and the tip policy stay the same.

Why franchise now

Reaching 60+ cities proved the system works across very different markets, from Toronto condos to Calgary family homes. But being available in a city is not the same as being part of it.

The next step for Hellamaid has two parts:

  • Deepen the cities we already serve. Add a local owner who is responsible for growing the business in that territory.
  • Open new territories. Expand into provinces where Hellamaid doesn’t operate yet, with an owner who knows the local market.

Franchising lets us do both at once, with owners who have a real stake in their territory.

Why not just open more corporate locations? A central team can run booking, scheduling and client support well from anywhere, and we will keep doing that. But the things that grow a city, like knowing regular clients by name, recruiting and keeping great local cleaners, showing up in the community and deciding where every local marketing dollar goes, work best when someone owns the result. A franchise owner has a stake in their territory in a way a manager running it from a distance doesn’t.

What a local owner can do that a central team can’t

Closer relationships with clients and cleaners. A local owner knows the neighbourhoods, the regular clients and the cleaning team personally. That relationship is hard to build from a central office, and it is a big part of why clients stay and good cleaners keep working with us.

Grassroots marketing. Boots on the ground make guerrilla marketing possible: showing up in the community and reaching people where they live, in ways a national campaign can’t.

Local ad spend that targets specific postal codes. With a local owner, marketing budgets on Google Ads and Meta can be aimed at the exact postal codes in a territory, which gets more out of every dollar than broad city-wide campaigns. Bookings that come through hellamaid.ca already route to the right territory by postal code, so that local spend and the national brand work together. We explain the full lead system in where cleaning franchise leads actually come from.

Converting corporate locations into franchise territories

Hellamaid is converting some of its corporate locations into franchise territories. A franchisee who takes over one of these territories doesn’t start from zero: the territory comes with existing clients and cleaners from day one.

For most new franchise owners, the hardest part of the first year is building a client base and a reliable team at the same time. A converted territory removes much of that early ramp-up. The specific terms for each territory are set out in the Franchise Disclosure Document, which you receive before signing anything.

New territory, current city

An open area in a city Hellamaid already serves, with the brand already known locally.

Converted corporate territory

A Hellamaid-run location handed to a franchise owner, with existing clients and cleaners from day one.

New province

A territory where Hellamaid doesn’t operate yet, for an owner who wants to build the brand locally.

We look for owners who want to be hands-on, especially in the first year. We don’t sell absentee ownership. If you’re still deciding between a franchise and going it alone, read how to start a cleaning business in Ontario first. Our 10 questions every franchise prospect asks covers what ownership looks like in practice, and how much a cleaning franchise costs in Canada breaks down the investment.

How Hellamaid supports franchise owners

Local owners focus on their territory. The systems Hellamaid has built since 2017 do the rest:

Run centrally by Hellamaid Led by the local owner
Online booking, instant quotes and scheduling Relationships with regular clients
Leads from hellamaid.ca, routed by postal code Local marketing and postal-code ad targeting
Client support and complaint triage Escalations that need an owner’s attention
Hiring playbooks and applicant flow Recruiting, onboarding and keeping the local team
Brand, national marketing and ad creative Community presence and grassroots marketing

In their first year, franchise owners also have direct access to the founders. Before anyone signs, they go through a nine-step process that includes financial modelling, a Franchise Disclosure Document review and conversations with existing franchisees without us in the room. Our buyer’s checklist shows how to check any franchisor, including us. The ownership models and open territories are on our franchise opportunities page.

What stays the same for Hellamaid clients

If your area becomes a franchise territory, the way you use Hellamaid doesn’t change:

  • You still book online at hellamaid.ca.
  • Client support stays central, so you reach the same team with questions or concerns.
  • The satisfaction policy is the same: tell us within 24 hours if something was missed and we come back to fix it.
  • Hellamaid’s $5M liability insurance standard applies across the brand.
  • Tipping stays optional, and 100% of any tip goes to your cleaner.

What changes is that someone local is responsible for your area and invested in getting it right. For the full picture of the system behind every clean, see how Hellamaid works before, during and after your clean.
