1. Price: know the total and the scope before you book
Calgary cleaning companies price in three main ways. None is automatically better. What matters is whether you know the total, and what it covers, before the cleaner arrives.

The most common cause of a surprise bill is scope, not rate. At many Calgary companies, including ours, inside the oven, inside the fridge and inside cabinets are add-ons, even on a deep clean. If they matter to you, make sure they’re on the booking before you confirm. Alberta has no provincial sales tax, so the only tax on a cleaning bill should be the 5% GST.

2. People: who is actually coming into your home
This is the question most people care about and the one they least often ask directly. “Background-checked” can mean anything from a police information check to a name search, so ask what the check includes and when it was done.
It also helps to know which type of provider you’re dealing with, because accountability works differently in each:

3. Insurance: what happens if something breaks
Accidents are rare, but a cleaner handles your belongings for hours. Before you book a Calgary cleaning company, ask three things:
- Is the company insured, and for how much? Ask for the liability policy amount and a certificate, not just a badge on a website.
- How do I report damage? Find out who you contact and how quickly you need to report it.
- What documentation do you need? Photos taken at the time make any claim faster.
A reputable company answers these in a sentence or two. Hesitation on the insurance question is a reason to keep looking.
4. Guarantee: read the terms, not the badge
Almost every cleaning company in Calgary advertises a satisfaction guarantee, and they are not all the same. Before you book, find out:
- How long you have to report a problem. It’s often 24 hours, sometimes less.
- Whether the fix is a free re-clean of the missed areas, a credit, or a refund.
- Whether you need to send photos.
- What’s excluded. Most companies won’t guarantee results on mould, permanent stains or hard-water etching.
Check the cancellation policy too. A 24-hour notice window is common in Calgary. Know it before you book, especially in winter, when roads can change your plans.
5. Reviews: make sure they’re real and local
Reviews are the easiest trust signal to fake. Fake ones have become more common as companies use software to generate hundreds of location pages at once. Warning signs:
- The same reviewer names appear on the company’s pages for different cities, with the wording slightly changed each time.
- The review count or star rating differs between pages of the same website.
- A new company claims thousands of completed jobs within its first few months.
- Most of the reviews were posted in the same few weeks.
The fix is simple. Read reviews on Google Maps directly, sort by newest, and look for Calgary neighbourhoods and specific details. Moving out? What Alberta law actually says
Be wary of any Calgary cleaning company that promises to “guarantee your deposit back.” No cleaner can promise that, because the decision isn’t theirs.
Under Alberta’s Residential Tenancies Act:
- A security deposit can’t exceed one month’s rent.
- Landlords must complete move-in and move-out inspection reports.
- Landlords can only deduct for damage beyond normal wear and tear.
- Landlords must return the deposit, or a written statement of account, within 10 days of the tenant moving out. Disputes go to the Residential Tenancy Dispute Resolution Service (RTDRS).
