Post Holiday Cleaning Guide

We are left with joyful hearts but cluttered homes after the Christmas parties and get-togethers. The clean-up from the holidays may be just as hectic as the preparation because of spills and stains on the carpet and scattered gift-wrapping papers. But with the help of our post-holiday cleaning guide, you can quickly transform your house from a messy to a tidy space. You do not need to do it all at once. If you are too busy, pick one or two a day from the list below. Let’s get started!

Post-Holiday Cleaning Guide

#1: Store the gift wrapping paper

Collect all the unused gift wrapping papers and ribbons, then put them in one big paper bag that is enough to hold all of them. You can also purchase a gift wrap storage bag, which can hold as much as 20 rolls of wrapping paper. Put them alongside the holiday decorations so you can easily see them when it’s time for you to decorate for the next Christmas season.

#2: Sort the presents

Keep your gifts from sitting on their boxes and paper bags for a short period. Give time to organize them, put them in their proper places, and ask your family members to do the same with the presents they receive. The new toys of the young kids must be put in the bins, new clothes must be hung in the closet, and new makeup on the vanity area.

#3: Receive and give

As you receive new things from holiday presents, maybe it’s time to donate some of the items you won’t be using anymore. Give lightly worn items you won’t use any longer if you receive new clothing. It’s a good idea to donate one thing for every new one that comes in. So pack all those unused gift boxes and donate them to a nearby shelter or charity. It’s a fantastic method to get rid of clutter while helping those in need.

#4: Keep your holiday decorations in storage

Some leave their holiday decorations till the new year, but some want to keep them as soon as the Christmas parties end. Either way, you need to keep them sooner or later. You must provide a designated storage space and container for your holiday decor and lights. Carton boxes are good options, but clear plastic containers are the best because they protect your items from pests, water, and dust.

#5: Cleanup the guest room

After your guests leave to go to their respective homes, it is best to clean up the guest bedrooms right away. Remove the garbage, wash the bed linens and bedding, and clean the surfaces and floors. The more you accomplish today, the less work there will be when you welcome your future guests in the coming year.

#6: Sweep and mop the floors

Glitters, crumbs, and dust will likely be scattered on your floors. It’s time for you to pick up the broom or vacuum as well as the mop. Clean your floors properly according to the type of flooring you have. If you have carpeted floors, it is best to use a vacuum. Tackle one area of the house before going to another. If you have teenage children, you can ask them to clean up their rooms so it will be easier for you to finish cleaning up the whole house.

#7: Tackle the spills and stains

Get rid of any spills and stains right away. Wine, fruit juice, and pasta sauce have a different approaches to eliminate them on surfaces. If you think you cannot perform it correctly or if the stains are tough to remove, you can always ask for help from a professional nearby.

#8: Organize the fridge

Do you have a lot of leftover food inside your fridge? It would be best if you organized them properly so it would be easier for you and your family members to get them. Place the food that needs to be consumed first in the front and the other goodies at the back. Give your fridge a quick wipe to remove the caked-on food. If you let it sit much longer, it will be harder for you to remove them later on.

#9: Clean the oven

Your oven is probably a little bit dirty from all the baking and cooking you did over the holidays. Use the self-cleaning oven option to remove baked-on splatters, or wash it by hand using baking soda and white vinegar.
